According to this article on adults and the impact of exercise on cognitive function, it states, “regular exercise benefits older adults’ cognitive function”. This article includes many studies that show higher test scores on multiple tests. Brain activity was drastically improved with the adults that were exercising compared to those who didn’t exercise.

The type of training tested was a mix aerobic and resistance training. All this information concludes that physical activity can increase brain activity the older you get.
